More Downtown Growth
At Monday night's Pomona City Council meeting final approval was given for the "Tequila Bar" (actual name unknown at this time) to be installed at the S.E. corner of 3rd and Thomas downtown. It promises to be an exciting addition to the downtown with upwards of 200 brands of tequila available. It will also feature entertainment, finger food, and sumptuous desserts. Should you fall in love with any of the brands, they will be licensed to sell you a bottle of your favorite "to go".
It is heartening to see new businesses in the downtown, especially during these difficult times. It just reinforces what most downtowners already know; Downtown Pomona is poised to be "the place" to be. In the past few months alone no less than six businesses have opened or announced their intention to do so. Very exciting indeed!
Just a reminder to attend a couple of events this Saturday. 1) The First Annual Chili Cook-Off at the dba256 wine bar, located at 256 S. Main St, 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. 2) Also from 5PM to 9PM the first showing ever at the 50Buck Gallery at Holt and Gibbs. Hope to see you all at these events!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

The Downtown Pomona Owner's Association (DPOA) has been busy installing Holiday decorations in the downtown. Red bows can be seen on 2nd St. from Gibbs to Park, and along Garey Ave from 2nd St. to Mission Blavd. Holiday wreaths will soon be hanging from the Antique Row and Art Colony arches at 2nd. and Garey. Coming soon will be holiday banners along Garey Ave. from 2nd St. to Mission, and finally (if all goes well) a lighted display stretching across Garey Ave at 3rd. St. It's been many a year since any lighted displays have been seen on Garey Ave.
We know we're a little early getting these displays up, we just wanted to be the first on our block to get into the spirit.

The Artisan

Does anyone know the real status of the Watt Companies "Artisan" project in the downtown? We all remember the demolition work which took down two city blocks to make room for the $100 million Artisan project.
Recently the Vault building was yellow tagged by the City for fear of falling debris as an aftermath of the recent earthquake. Watt Companies responded quickly by reinforcing parts of the building with plywood and installing still more chainlink fencing to keep the area around the building safe for passing pedestrians. So now there are two city blocks encircled with chainlink fencing.
The economy slowed and the housing market went into a tailspin...certainly no time to build more housing units. So it's perfectly understandable that the Watt Companies would put the Artisan project on hold. But now, it seems, the Artisan Project has been removed from the Watt website. Is the project so delayed that it doesn't warrant space on the website, or has the project been canceled, or perhaps sold to another developer?
Anyone know?
