BIO
Born in 1959 in the Los Angeles area, he splits his time in the Pomona Arts Colony/ Joshua Tree California. Steven is Native American Indian & Mexican Decent from Southern California, Steven Ruiz has been interested in art as long as he can remember. He was raised within a family of artists, including musicians and painters. Many have acquired Steven Ruiz Landscapes, Music paintings and Wood sculptures, including corporate and private collections as well as having a Permanent display in a museum. He has been featured in catalogs and many newspaper articles. Along with many exhibitions under his belt, Steven has been busy with many commissions and running a new gallery, while being a stay home Dad.


Interview

Explain to us the type of art you do?
I do Urban scapes as well as landscapes sometimes Plein Air style (onsite painting) I also do wood sculptures see my Giant burnt matches on my website.

What is your favorite time to be creative?
anytime there is good light for painting outdoors or late at night in my studio

Where have you drawn inspiration from downtown?
My inspiration comes from hanging out with fellow artist at the bars, so I think it inspires me, but it sure is fun though

How has the Arts Colony made you a better artist?
It keeps me focused as an artist by having my peers living in the same area.


Do you have any shows currently or coming up?
I am curating a show at the Metro Pomona gallery in Febuary and I show my work in my own Gallery as well. I am using this year to work on small works of my area and neighboring cities,

How is life in the Arts Colony?
Each day is a fun journey here in the Arts Colony, it is a big family here and we watch out for one another.

What tips can you give other artists who are
thinking about moving to the Arts Colony?

Have plenty of beer on hand. other then that, just have an open mind and get involved, you won't be sorry

Favorite place to hang out and or eat in Metro Pomona?
DBA wine bar and the Acerogami bar, for food I like the Pho,Merendero, and Aladin.

Do you have any Pets?
not yet, but I do have a pet rock if that counts.
