An Interview with Sally Egan:
Explain to us the type of art you do? Fine Art Photography, usually very staged and controlled. I don’t like to take myself too seriously in my work, but I like to think that there is always something the viewer can relate to in my images. Recently I have been collaborating with fellow friend and photographer Amy Bystetd which has been a great experience.
What is your favorite time to be creative? I really don’t have a specific time, I am usually governed by what lighting I need for a photo shoot, whether it be day or night. I also find myself to be very creative right before a deadline, I am a bit of a procrastinator.
Where have you drawn inspiration from downtown? I consider downtown to be my own personal backdrop. There are so any interesting places to use for a shoot down here, whether it be the interior of the Fox Theater, an alley way, a loft, train station, its pretty much sky’s the limit.
Do you have any shows currently or coming up? I will be showing in the Metro Gallery along side Amy Bystedt and Andi Campognone, the show is titled “She was the Young American”
Do you collect other artists work and whose? I try to, there is truth in the phrase “Starving Artist”, but I am fortunate to own pieces from Juan Thorp, Rolo Castillo, Amy Maloof, Fr. Bill Moore, Thomas Pathe, Alex Cowenburg, and Susie Eaton Thorp.
How is life in the Arts Colony? Life is good, the commute is easy, its quite the backyard we have for those of us who live down here. Its definitely a small town feeling in the colony which I love.
What tips can you give other artists who are thinking about moving to the Arts Colony? Be prepared for the occasional noisy weekend, things can be pretty lively late into the night. Also be prepared to wave to at least 2-5 fellow downtowners throughout the day, its a very friendly neighborhood.
Favorite places to hang out and or eat in Metro Pomona? All the restaurants and bars down here are great, but I definitely have a soft spot for Joey’s Bar-B-Que.
